an organic process that allows the materials to guide us
Both of these workshops filled, and if you'd like to be on a list for future workshops, email me. We'll be following the thread to textile communites, meeting and supporting weavers, and bringing inspiration back to the studio where we'll follow the threads to our own creations.
We begin by visitng textile communities to meet the weavers and shop for treasures. Back in the studio, we work with found textiles and objects, including plastics, photos, natural fibers, etc., we begin by freeing our minds of any pre-conceived notions about what we think we want to create. By throwing the material possibilities on the main table, we’ll take some moments, choosing what calls to us. Working on small tables individually or in pairs, each student can take time to study what you’ve chosen and get a feel for the textures, colors and shapes that appeal to you. As you begin cutting, tearing, tying, wrapping, and stitching, your hands and eyes will be your guides. Everything is about discovery, as you ascertain what appeals to you, how it is in relationship to something else, and where it might go if you allow yourself to let go.
